Gylleboverket, at Österlen in the eastern part of Skåne, south of Sweden, has been a platform for contemporary arts, culture and resilience since 2010. However, it began in the later part of the 20th century as a construction scrap yard where old houses could make their final rest. During the mid-20th century until 2010, demolished old houses from Österlen and the surrounding area were brought to be piled up and returned to soil. Dwelling there in a dialogue with the living world they become the very site they were brought to. In this way, Gylleboverket has cultivated and carried for decades the knowledge of how houses can die, and, at the same time, how a new life and biotope can grow out of dead houses.
During the first weekend of September 2026, beings will be summoned to a practical seminar on the death and life of houses and by extension, the structures that conduct our ways of living. With invited participants from the fields of ecology, architecture and art we will weave lectures, an ongoing exhibition, workshops and discussions into embodied practices. Through the seminar, together we will question the ingrained comfort of houses and body shelters together with a living world in a time of dissolution.
