The PERMACULTURE FARM called BOAT IN THE FOREST- harbour for radical nomads, is a exploratory site for resilience and relational processes with one of the first larger nut orchids in Sweden with Sweet Chestnut, Walnuts, Pecan and Hazel
At the site we explore how we can bring home our feedback loops and grow food in regenerative healthy ecosystems that promotes biodiversity.
At the farm we planted a 3 hectare food forest where hundreds of various nut trees , fruit trees, berries, perennials and annuals coexist and is one of the first larger nut orchids in Sweden with Chestnut, Walnuts, Pecan and Hazel. We experiment with holistic water management systems with reedbeds, bio-ponds and natural swimming pools collecting rain water, build houses with ecological materials, as well as been digging a large hole in silence for one year together with the local community, artist, researcher and people passing by.
The nuts are the farm’s main focus, as they can be stored and eaten as a staple food in a future low-energy society.
Already today, they are harvested for self-sufficiency, but 10 years from now, the farm has calculated the harvest to be 10 tons/year and another 10 years from now up to 25 tons/year – entirely harvested with simple hand tools.
The trees can yield a harvest for up to 1000 years into the future without having to be re-established.
The site produces food for us to be self-sufficient, as well as for Gylleboverkets events.
At the farm artists and researches also stay for shorter or longer residency periods.
We combine permaculture with artistic methods and the transformative potential of embodied experiences, materialization of thoughts, storytelling, reconnection and the performative, exploring the poetry of life, being in and with the unknown and the uncertainties together with the practical everyday life, in something that we call Dark Permaculture.
